About Social Media for Business Performance
Social media is looked at in many different ways by different people, but I thought it would be useful to start with a definition from Anthony Bradley who works for the Gartner organization. “At its foundation, social media is a set of technologies and channels targeted at forming and enabling a potentially massive community of participants to productively collaborate. IT tools have existed for decades. But social-media technologies such as social networking, wikis and blogs, enable collaboration on a much grander scale and support tapping the power of the collective in ways previously unachievable.” So, there are some fairly ambitious goals for social media and high expectations of what we can achieve.
In terms of understanding how we apply social media, I think it’s important to understand that really what we’re looking at is the transformation of businesses. We’re looking at how businesses operate and what social media can do to impact the performance of the organization.
This site is focused on Social Media for Business Performance. More and more businesses are using social media. This site showcases the areas social media can be applied in business and its impact.
