Communitech is accelerating social marketing for tech industry startups

How the Communitech incubator in Waterloo ON, is leveraging social media to market its services to Silicon Valley North start-ups in need of just the right guidance to get their big idea off the ground.

The Communitech incubator was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated entrepreneurs who wanted to raise the profile of the Waterloo Region tech community.  Their vision: more tech talent, a globally-recognized tech sector and better support for companies.  Since it’s inception, it’s been recognized by global companies such as Google, when in 2013 Communitech was the first Canadian entrepreneur centre selected (Montreal has since been added) to join the Google for Entrepreneurs Tech Hub Network, an honour shared by only 8 (previously 6) other North American tech companies.

With achievements such as these an often occurrence at the company, it’d be a shame to not share it with the tech community you’re trying to foster, and one of the people responsible with spreading these positive vibes is Trish Crompton, Digital Journalist and Social Media Manager at Communitech.

Along with driving awareness within the community, Trish is also involved with promoting Communitech events, programs, media coverage, and communicating what’s happening with companies within the region.

In  addition to Trish also runs the social media component of  Communitech’s Business Fundamentals program; which places a clear emphasis on learning how to correctly market your startup.

Furthermore, Trish manages three communities, and is also responsible for championing social media to the hundreds of startup partners currently working within the Communitech incubator.  Events are another key component that Communitech drives exposure through socially, prior to, during, and post.

Lessons for Others

Through it’s various outreach avenues Communitech has cemented itself as the premier tech-hub, feeding valuable information to not only it’s startup partners but the national tech community on a whole.  Social media is a key tool used to market it’s services, drive interest in local events, and amplify the success of startups far and wide.
