GE knew what they were doing when they launched the Healthyshare app prior to the 2012 London games. This app was designed to help inspire people to “Get Moving, Eat Healthier, or Work Out Like an Olympian.” GE used this idea to partner with Facebook at an extremely strategic time.
GE found a way to tap into the health epidemic and not only have individuals set health and fitness goals, but it allows Facebook friends to comment and help motivate the participants. Really, it is a genius idea for a company to “look” like they care about people. Not only do we sell the best and most innovative washer and dryers, but they actually care about the health of the customers they sell to!
Whether they stand behind their word “Health is a very big and important business for GE” or admit it was a great advertising tool for them, I still think it is a great idea.
Lessons to learn:
Sometimes it all about timing when it comes to a marketing strategy.
Make sure you include other companies/events that really sell themselves. GE took the opportunity to work with Facebook, which alone gives you enough of a boost but they really took it to the next level and launched when the world was watching.
Oh, and don’t forget to include a short video on Youtube about what you are doing.
