Lumberjack Sports is an online sports based company from Brantford Ontario, specializing in Baseball and Softball, in game and off field workout gear. Their focus is on exceptional quality, and providing consumers with a reliable, long lasting product. “In creating Lumberjack sports, we wanted a name and logo athletes could relate to. Lumberjack sports is not only a brand, it is a mentality. Hard work, strength and all around commitment to getting the job done, and done right, is what we have built Lumberjack sports on” says founder Nick Shailes.
Designed and tested by one of the worlds leading Mens Fastpitch players, Lumberjack sports is looking to break onto the Baseball/Softball scene in a big way. That is largely in part to their great social media practices. As a startup company there is a lot of weight put on social media, as it can be utilized as a major marketing tool without a lot of monetary investment. Through different social media platforms Lumberjack sports is able to connect with everybody from consumers, suppliers and through to retailers by utilizing key social media practices. Some of these practices include:-
Customer Engagement- By engaging customers through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, Lumberjack sports is able to engage and attract new customers through specific consumer based posts.
Product Development- Through the use of their instagram and Facebook, Lumberjack sports is able to connect with consumers on a personal level which helps gain insight into product design. In doing this they are able to provide a consumer based product which customers can relate to on a personal level.
Supply Chain Management- by managing Supply Chain through the use of social media, Lumberjack Sports can connect with suppliers with ease. By utilizing Apps such as Whatsapp and facebook Messenger they are able to stay in constant contact with their suppliers from all over the world from Pakistan to China.
Metrics- Social media metrics is a practice Lumberjack Sports uses for its Facebook and Instagram by studying page views, traffic generation. After Launch Lumberjack sports will also study conversions from both of those platforms and will be implementing google analytics to get a better understanding and best utilize the consumer trends towards their social media and their products.
Marketing- Lumberjack Sports marketing practices through social media is largely based around their social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. Through the use of specific targeted posts to their consumer base, Lumberjack sports are essentially utilizing a free marketing Strategy. In saying this Facebooks algorithm is ever changing and have made it increasingly tough to advertise through free posts by filtering businesses posts to the broader product. The only way around this is through the use of Instagram and Facebooks Paid Promotional Advertising, by using this Lumberjack Sports is able to reach a larger consumer population based on specific filters targeting the baseball/softball community.
A great example of free marketing and target specific posts is this video posted by Lumberjack sports on both social media platforms instagram and Facebook. This post was not a paid promotion yet it has over 6,200 views and has reached over 10,000 people. This was possible through the use of public posting and ability to share the post, in doing this the business page and video were broadcast to a much wider audience and new consumer base. By highlighting the swing and igniting conversation on a very touchy subject in the baseball and softball communities this post was a successful marketing tool for Lumberjack Sports.

Through the use of a structured social media plan, any business can utilize specific platforms to help the progression of their brand. Each step should be re-evaluated after you have had time to analyze the results of your marketing efforts. Let the data drive you. If it is telling you Facebook or Instagram is your most effective channel, consider doubling down. A great social media strategy is never set in stone.
